The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) operates the Foster Care Program to support students in foster care by encouraging innovative practices that reduce educational disruptions, strengthen school stability, and improve academic performance.  The program’s website includes state and federal requirements for the education of children and youth in care and maintains a searchable list of school district Foster Care Liaisons and their contact information.

Use this excellent checklist, created by the Office of the Education Ombuds, to effectively advocate for students in foster care.  OEO Checklist Supporting Highly Mobile Students w IEPs 2020 

The American Bar Association created a new resource for courts to ensure that children’s educational need are being address during the pandemic, Courtroom Questions to Address Education During COVID-19.  Instead of asking “Is the child enrolled and doing well in school?” the document provides a list of important, timely questions that the court should consider related to the child’s access to and support for effective instruction.
