This module provides an overview of the background, purpose, and structure of the child dependency court system in Washington State. The important role of the judicial officer in dependency court systems, including their leadership role on-the-bench in hearing dependency cases and off-the-bench in leading collaborative court and system improvement efforts will also be examined. Judicial officers will also learn about the major federal and legal authorities that govern the dependency court system and the timelines for achieving permanency.
