WA Family Treatment Courts Best Practice Standards

This series of training modules are based of the Family Treatment Court Best Practice Standard Published in 2019. These best practices were developed using current research and practices in the field as determined by a team of experts from across fields of Child Welfare, Substance Use Disorder Treatment, Drug Court, and Dependency Best Practices. You can (and should) download a free pdf copy of those Standards here, and use them as you follow the material of these modules.

Learning outcomes: Getting Started

After completing this module, participants will:

  1. Understand the accessibility and usage resources for these best practice modules
  2. Acknowledge the land and tribal communities that bring us to this space
  3. Have a basic understanding of the research and organizations behind the best practice standards.
  4. Understand how to best use this material.

Module 1

Learning Outcomes Module 1

After completing this entire BP 1 module participants will: 

  1. Understand the 10 provisions identified in the Best Practice guide regarding the structure and organization of an FTC
  2. Gain clarity about how each member of a local Family Treatment Court supports the structures and organization development of the FTC.
  3. To make actionable goals to create sustainability in your local FTC.

Best Practice One is very dense, so it has been broken out into videos, resources, and written content a little differently than other modules.

Module 2

Learning Outcomes Module 2:

After completing this module participants will:

  1. Understand the 6 basic provisions identified in the Best Practice Standards
  2. Gain clarity about how each member of a local Family Treatment Court supports the judicial officer in their role.

Module 5

Learn more about Contingency Management, a treatment methodology that is best practice for stimulant addiction, with promising results for other substances.

After completing this module, participants will:

  1. Understand the basics of change management, continuous quality improvement, and data collection and know where to go to find more information and resources
  2. Briefly explain why electronic data collection is preferred and how this helps us to increase successful outcomes
  3. How to evaluate data, and how often courts should do this.
